Sydney Sweeney's Novig Ad Won the Attention War, Data Shows: 'Out-Attention Them'
Peak Metrics ran the numbers on six platforms. Favorable beat unfavorable. Novig went from No. 50 to No. 11 in the App Store. The data has a verdict.
Warp Me to the Next Section ↓The campus op-eds called it antifeminist. Sharon Stone reversed her defense. Female athletes labeled it "housewife mentality." Meanwhile the Novig app climbed from No. 50 to No. 11 in App Store sports rankings after Sydney Sweeney appeared nearly nude on their behalf.
Now the social data has caught up to the market data. Peak Metrics analyzed sentiment on X, Instagram, Reddit, TikTok, Threads, and Bluesky after the campaign launched. Favorable responses exceeded unfavorable on all six platforms, Reality Tea reported Monday.
"A few days ago, who even knew about Novig?"
Nicky Vita, Head of Strategy at JOAN London, put the brand awareness case plainly: Novig was effectively unknown before Sweeney stripped down for their camera. "From an awareness point of view, the fact that people are talking about it days after launch is a good thing," Vita told Reality Tea.
Search interest for "Novig" doubled compared to competitors Kalshi and Polymarket in the weeks after the campaign, per Newsweek. For context: Polymarket is valued at over $20 billion. Novig is valued at roughly $500 million. The smaller player dramatically outran the bigger one in earned attention.
The 20x Engagement Gap
Polymarket's celebrity-laden campaign generated 55,000 Instagram likes. Sweeney's Novig ad generated 1.2 million, per Fortune. That is a 20x gap. Sweeney was equity partner and creative director on the Novig campaign, overseeing music selection, camera angles, and script revisions before filming began.
"If you're Novig, you probably can't outspend Polymarket. So you have to out-attention them. She's not even a simple endorsement, she's a competitive weapon," brand strategist Shruti Saini told Fortune.
The Cost the Data Does Not Show
Sweeney lost more than 200,000 Instagram followers during the backlash, per Newsweek. That is real. The sentiment data netted out favorable across six platforms and the Novig app climbed the charts, but her personal brand absorbed a follower cost that does not appear in a brand awareness report.
An anonymous industry source framed the durable pattern this way: "Sydney has now been at the center of several campaigns that generated outrage, debate and enormous publicity. Whatever people think about the creative choices, brands understand that she commands attention." Whether that sustained attention demand eventually exhausts the audience she has left is the question the data does not answer.

Our Read
We have covered this campaign from the campus criticism to the Sharon Stone reversal to the athletes calling it housewife mentality. Each piece of critical coverage drove Novig search traffic and pushed the app higher in the charts. The outrage machine and the growth engine ran on the same fuel.
That is not a vindication of the ad's content. The criticism of its framing was accurate and fair. It is a data verdict on the strategy, and on that score the strategy worked exactly as it was designed to.
The question now is whether Novig can convert attention into active users. Brand awareness that does not compound into retention looks strong in a week-one data pull and ordinary in a six-month retention report.
