Margot Robbie Signs as 'Margot Ackerley' in Her Own Company Filing

Nearly a decade after marrying Tom Ackerley, LuckyChap Entertainment's Companies House records quietly list a new legal name ... the professional brand 'Robbie' is not going anywhere.

Margot Robbie built one of the most bankable names in film over a decade of work ... UK Companies House records filed this week quietly list her for the first time as Margot Elise Ackerley, her husband's surname. Just Jared confirmed the update from filings published by Companies House, the UK business registry.

The change lands in the director listing for LuckyChap Entertainment, the production company Robbie co-founded in 2014 with Ackerley, Sophia Kerr, and Josey McNamara. Every filing since LuckyChap first named her a director in May 2015 had read Margot Elise Robbie.

Fan reaction was immediate and split. Supporters called it a private choice nine years in the making. Others argued she had made "Robbie" into something that belonged to her audience as much as herself. ComingSoon documented the social response, describing fans as "stunned."

Not Entirely a Surprise

Robbie and Ackerley married in December 2016 at a private estate in Byron Bay, Australia. They met three years earlier on the set of Suite Française, where Ackerley worked as an assistant director. The couple welcomed their first child, a son, in October 2024.

The name was already in private circulation. According to The Daily Telegraph, a wedding seating chart from 2018 listed her as Margot Ackerley, suggesting the married name has been in personal use for years while the professional identity stayed put.

That professional identity is not going anywhere. Robbie appeared in credits for Sterling Point, her Prime Video series that premiered August 5, 2026, as Margot Robbie. Sources familiar with her representation confirmed to Just Jared that she is expected to continue using her maiden name for all acting credits.

One Name, Two Functions

The split is a documented pattern in celebrity brand management: the legal name follows the personal life, the professional name follows the audience. Robbie has over a decade of global screen credits attached to a single surname. Ackerley is Tom's name and, now, the legal name on their shared company's filings.

It is worth noting that Ackerley was already listed in LuckyChap filings as a director and executive producer. The company's lead actress and co-founder now shares his surname in the paperwork, while still carrying her own on the screen.

A representative for Robbie had not issued a public statement at time of publication.

Watch whether Robbie updates her professional credits to match at some point, or whether the two-name arrangement becomes the permanent structure.
